Tirukkoil Vazhipattu Kuzhu Meeting held

31 July 2011, Kanchipuram

A meeting of the Tirukkoil Vazhipattu Kuzhu(Group) was held at Shrimatham, Kanchipuram in the benign presence of His Holiness Pujyasri Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamiji and His Holiness Pujyasri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamiji.
Around 200 villagers from 25 villages  of the Uthiramerur Taluka and 4 villages from Achirapakkam Taluka participated in the meeting. The Tirukkoil Vazhipattu Kuzhu has been started with the benign blessings of Their Holinesses with the objective of enabling the conduct of Nitya Puja in village temples, to involve the villagers to participate in the worship and upkeep of their temples, distribution of materials required for nitya pooja, distribution of religious books & cassettes, organize bhajans and encouraging age-old traditions of chanting Tirumurai, Divyaprabandham, Tiruppugazh, and also to conduct other activities like quiz, yoga competition, shloka chanting  etc in the temple premises to involve children and youth of the villages. Already, teams from Chennai have been formed and are visiting villages present in the Kanchipuram Dist and Tiruvallur Dist in the weekends. It may be recalled that The Acharyas also visited a chain of temples in the Uttiramerur Taluka in Kanchipuram Dist. on 11th January 2011 to encourage the visiting teams and also to stress importance of daily worship amongst the villagers (See here for complete report on the visit of Pujyasri Acharya Swamijis to temples in Uttiramerur on 11 Jan 2011 ). From that day onwards there has been a stream of activities happening in this dist under the able leadership and coordination of Shri Vishwanathan of Pammal Satsangam (944380697). Recently, the Kuzhu has bought a bus to enable to transport volunteers from the city to the villages and also to carry pooja materials.

He appealed for more participation of volunteers in the programme envisaged by Their Holinesses of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham.

His Holiness giving Anugraha Bhashanam

His Holiness Pujyasri Jayendra Saraswati Shankaracharya Swamiji then gave Anugraha Bhashanam. His Holiness stressed the importance lighting lamps in the temple and conducting Nitya Puja. As a matter of fact, His Holiness has always stressed the need to preserve and renovate existing old temples and performance of Nitya Puja rather than building new temples in Southern India. Answering to the queries of the villagers regarding naming of idols whose names are not known, His Holiness told that they can be named after Kamakshi & Ekambareshwara. His Holiness also advised  the villagers to construct small structures as shelters to the idols without Vimana, during renovation and  told them to pay more attention towards conducting daily worship. His Holiness then told them that the Shrimatham would help in conducting Balalayam and Jeernodharanam & Kumbhabhishekam of the temples and the villagers should take the responsibility of arranging proper renovation of the temple structure. His Holiness further said that Shrimatham would provide religious books and other materials required for doing Sevas in the temple.
Following the anugraha Bhashanam, His Holiness distributed Panniruthirumurai to Kanda Velan Oduvar of Porpandal village, Shruti box and cymbals to Ratnam of Padiri village, Sarva Devata Ashtottara Namavali to Shridevan of Madhur village and Puja Sangraham to Rajagopala Bhattacharya of Alapakkam.

His Holiness Pujyasri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswati Shankaracharya Swamiji, who graced the meeting after performing the Nitya Chandramouleeshwara Puja gave Naalaayira Divyaprabandham to Shri LakshmiNarasimhan of Salavakkam village. Shri Raju, correspondent of Dandapani Oriental School read out the notes dictated by His Holiness Shri BalaSwamiji. He said that His Holiness wished that each temple should become a Tirupati in terms of worship & religious activities and secondly, that by maintaining sanctity of temples, purity of mind is achieved. ( Kovilai Shuddham seidal manadum Shuddham Adayum).

The villagers were then distributed Kumkum Prasad and were provided with Annaprasadam (lunch). Renowned speaker Sudha Seshaiyan also addressed the gathering. Shri Kannan, a senior volunteer  of the Thirukoil Vazhipatu Kuzhu conducted the proceedings.
